Our visit from FareShare

Published: 14 Apr, 2025

Last week we had a fantastic visit from Shay Dempsey, our FareShare account manager. During the visit we learnt all about the great work FareShare do throughout the country and how Edwards have contributed to this.

During 2024, Edwards donated over 30 tonnes of surplus food, which otherwise would have gone to waste, providing the equivalent of over 71,000 meals to those who need it most.

By donating surplus stock not only are we helping those in need, but we are also playing our part in helping the environment. In 2024 we prevented 64.3 tonnes of CO2e and 80 million litres of embedded water from going to waste.

We learnt more about the incredible charities that receive food donated through FareShare including those who: work with people experiencing homelessness, support asylum seekers and refugees, work with children and young people and community groups.

Not only are these charities providing food to those in need, but they are also improving the social value of food through providing application support, training opportunities and any assistance people may need to improve their lives.

Whilst FareShare rely on donations from organisations, both big and small, they also rely on volunteers who make up 80% of the FareShare team. Last year, over 65,000 hours were completed by volunteers delivering orders, sorting produce and helping individual charities.

Here at Edwards, we’re very proud to be supporting FareShare and we can’t wait to learn where our food donations will go this year and who they’ll help.
